Park Ranger Don Bergeron joined the Rotary Club of Dunedin to provide an update on Honeymoon after Hurricane Idalia. Overall, Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands and Anclote Key fared well. Idalia brought a great deal of storm surge, overflowing Honeymoon Island and parts of Caladesi Island. Park buildings and equipment were largely unharmed, aside from solar panels and water pumps on Anclote Key and the beach boardwalks at Honeymoon Island.
A bright result of the storm was the temporary residence of a flamingo at Honeymoon Island. Even the Gopher Tortoises did well, and a tortoise hatching occurred right after the storm passed through.
