Vinnie Lulsi 250th Anniversary Plans

Vinnie discussed the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, highlighting the city historian's involvement with a national group. He also mentioned his subsequent work as a consultant for the Dunedin History Museum on special projects. Vinnie expressed his desire to share some of his projects, including plans for the upcoming anniversary celebrations.

 

American Revolution 250th Anniversary Celebration

Vinnie discussed the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, which will be celebrated in 2026. He mentioned that the Federal Government set up a US Committee in 2022 to plan statewide programming. Florida has now signed up and allocated funding for special events in the State Capitol and larger cities. Vinnie is a regional representative for the Southeast region and is also on the Committee for the Northeast. He shared his involvement in several projects, including an event in Boston in 2023, and mentioned that more events are planned for the next few years, including some in Dunedin.

 

Boston Tea Party Reenactment

Vinnie discussed his recent participation in the Boston Tea Party reenactment and the Battle of Lexington and Concord. He described the large crowds and the historical significance of the events, noting that over 75,000 people attended the Battle of Lexington. Vinnie also mentioned his experience walking the same road as Paul Revere and the minutemen, and his attendance at a 4-day program in Boston celebrating the 250th anniversary of America. He highlighted the presence of the Governor of Massachusetts, the Lieutenant Governor, and the head of the America 250 project at the event.

 

America's 250th Anniversary Celebration Plans

Vinnie discussed the upcoming 250th anniversary of America's founding, which will be celebrated over the next five years. He proposed working with the city to organize events, including parades and dedications, and suggested a joint celebration with Dunedin's 100th anniversary as a city. Vinnie also mentioned the reenactment of the Bunker Hill battle and encouraged community participation in the anniversary celebrations, including schools and churches.

 

American Revolution Documentary & Clock Tower Fundraiser

Vinnie discussed the upcoming American Revolution documentary series and the History Maker Award. He also announced a fundraiser event on August 16th to save the clock tower in Dunedin, which was damaged by lightning. The event will include a screening of the movie "Back to the Future" and a DeLorean time machine. Vinnie encouraged everyone to wear costumes from the movie and to keep an eye on the event's flyers and website for more information.
