The Health of Tampa Bay

Sheila Scolaro, Community Programs Scientist, provided an interesting and insightful overview of the health of Tampa Bay. Using sea grasses as a measure, the team at the Tampa Bay Estuary Program are monitoring the health of Tampa Bay. Their research is integral to understanding the Bay's ecosystem and our human impact on it. Ms. Scolaro helped us better understand how past and current actions are contributing to the decline of sea grasses in the Bay. The grasses serve many purposes, including as hunting grounds and nurseries for several species of fish and birds. As the grasses decline, so, too, will the entire ecosystem.
